MESCALERO, N.M. (July 6, 2016)— Come out to Inn of the Mountain Gods this July for a variety of events and concerts, including Canadian rock band Theory of a Deadman on July 14, contemporary and classic country stars Jamey Johnson and Marty Stuart on July 27 and the ongoing Sundays Under the Stars movie and music series.
Hailing from western Canada, Theory of a Deadman formed in 2001 during the hard rock fervor caused by fellow Canadian group Nickleback. The four-man piece broke into mainstream success with their second album “Scars & Souvenirs” in 2008, which produced eight top 10 singles including the number one hit “Bad Girlfriend” and earned Gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America.
While past albums have dealt primarily with themes of crazy relationships and partying, the band’s most recent release “Savages” sees a more mature band tackle contemporary issues. Tickets for the July 14 show at 8 p.m. start at $30.
It’s two for the price of one on July 27 when modern country star Jamey Johnson and nineties country star Marty Stuart take the stage in Mescalero. Johnson was cranking out country hits as a songwriter for artists like Trace Adkins and Jesse James before signing a recording contract with BNA Records in 2005. He had a string of top 40 country singles with 2005’s “The Dollar” at number 14 and “In Color” at number nine in 2008 before breaking into main stream success with his 2010 album “The Guitar Song,” which debuted at number four on the U.S. Billboard 200 charts before reaching RIAA Gold Certification that year. Recently, Johnson founded his own label, Big Gassed Records, and released two singles, “Alabama Pines” and “You Can” in early 2015.
Joining Johnson is nineties country star and rockabilly mainstay Marty Stuart. Stuart’s career began at the age of 12, after Stuart was picked up by legendary bluegrass band Nashville Grass, and touring with the band until they disbanded in 1978. Stuart then joined Johnny Cash’s band in 1980 before leaving to pursue a solo career in 1985.
Stuart found success with his debut single “Arlene” off his self-titled album, peaking at number 19 on the Billboard Hot Country chart. Later, Stuart pivoted to a more rockabilly sound and his career took off, landing five top-ten country hits in two years with the tracks “Hillbilly Rock,” “Little Things,” “Tempted,” “Burn Me Down” and “This One’s Gonna Hurt You (For a Long, Long Time).” Recently Stuart and his band the Fabulous Superlatives released their second album, “Saturday Night/Sunday Morning,” at number 24 on the US Country Charts. Tickets for Jamey Johnson and Marty Stuart on July 27 start at $25. Doors open at 7 p.m. and show starts at 8 p.m.
